What is the .paris ?
As Paris is very active in economic and digital life, the City of Paris wanted to offer its own domain name to support local activity. The purpose of the new .paris extension, validated by AFNIC, is to improve the visibility of residents and professionals based in the French capital.
There are more than 12 million people in the Paris region who are entitled to have a .paris domain name. This extension will enable both individuals and companies to develop their local identity on the web.
Why use a .paris?
.paris is the official domain name of the French capital, a national and international reference. Paris conveys a universal image of culture and prestige, recognised by everyone. Therefore, a .paris domain name will both associate you with this image and localise your website.
In addition, registering a .paris domain name will secure your name or trademark with this new extension, strengthen the presence of your name or trademark and prevent it from being used by a third party.
Or it could be the opportunity for you to use a term, name or mark no longer available with other domain extensions.
Who can get a .paris ?
The .paris domain name is available to residents, professionnals, associations, retailers or any other person who can justify a direct or indirect attachment to the Paris region (departments 75, 77, 78, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95).
You will find the details of the release phases here.
The .paris ambassadors
100 companies were selected to pioneer .paris before its general release, including RATP, Aéroports de Paris (Paris Airports), the Eiffel Tower and Citroën DS.
These 100 ambassadors unveiled their websites with the new extension on June 4 2014. To celebrate the release of .paris, several of the Paris landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, were lit up with the extension in the evening.
